Catriona Makes

A blog about basketry, creativity and life

About

Hi, my name is Catriona. I’m a basket maker living in Naarm / Melbourne, Australia. I started making baskets back in 2019, just as Covid took over the world. I learned my craft from Ruth Woods of Craft School Oz.

Making baskets is a beautiful pastime. I make all of my baskets, wall art and jewellery, with thought and care. Coil basketry is a mindful craft.  Stitch by stitch my baskets come together slowly and they are an evocation of passing time, and using time creatively.

I work primarily with raffia that is sustainably grown and harvested in Madagascar, and has been hand dyed by local dyers here in Australia. I sometimes even do some dyeing myself.
